Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou on December 7, 2018. Hobby Japan has released a revised and illustrated version of the series since June 1, 2020 under its HJ Bunko label.

The series has been published in English as The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist by Monogatari Novels since March 3, 2026.
