Matsumi, Shinichi

Graduated from the Japan Institute of the Moving Image.

He began his career as a production assistant at Nippon Animation later becoming an assistant episode director on several World Masterpiece Theatre series in the late 80s. He later became active at Tezuka Productions and Studio Ghibli and seems to have transferred from Ghibli to Studio 4°C during the talent leak. After participating in several Studio 4°C works he became largely inactive in the anime industry, although the was credited as the supervising director of Thundercats (2011).

He has worked under many talented and prolific anime directors such as Osamu Dezaki, Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki, Koji Morimoto, and Katsuhiro Otomo.

It is said that he is deeply knowledgeable about digital technology, having been involved 3DCG, digital photography, and even tool development. in 2014 he published the book "After Effects Expressions Quick Reference" (ゼロからのAfterEffectsエクスプレッション奮闘記エクスプレッションがわからん!). Until recently, he maintained the blog dA-tools (http://www.da-tools.com/).

Recently, he has been involved in the works of 3D animation studio Orange such as Houseki no Kuni and Beastars.
